Newington Parish Council Needs You

WANT TO BE A PARISH COUNCILLOR?
If you are passionate about your local community, we need you
.

Councillors make a huge difference to the quality of life of local people and how local issues are dealt with. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect the parish to put themselves forward.

We have two Vacancies on Newington Parish Council – Are you interested in becoming a Councillor?

Following recent resignations we have a vacancy for two Councillors to join Newington Parish Council. These two Councillors seats will be filled by a process called co-option.

We are now inviting applications from local people to join Newington Parish Council.

In terms of eligibility, you must be a British, Commonwealth or European Union citizen, over 18 years old and are registered to vote in the area; or have lived, worked, or owned property here for at least 12 months.

Responsibilities of the Parish Council
The Parish Council is responsible for delivering vital services such as first-line communication with local authorities to repair infrastructure, and resolve road safety issues. It is eligible to apply for grant funding to deliver a variety of local projects such as the new village defibrillator. It also determines how much money to raise through the council precept to deliver these services to the residents of the parish.

What kind of person do we need?
You should have an active interest in local issues and things that affect local people and a willingness to represent the views of the community. You will be asked to attend our meetings 6 times per year, or as many as you are able to. Our meetings are usually held at 7:00pm on a Thursday evening in St Giles Church, Newington.

How to apply
To apply, please send an email or letter to the Parish Clerk at newingtonparishclerk@gmail.com, or deliver to Newington House (FAO Parish Clerk) by 31st August.
